§31
Housing & Urban Planning
THE THESIS
Africa's urban population is doubling to about 1.4 billion by 2050 — the fastest urban growth on Earth — and about half of urban Africans already live in slums. The AR builds it right.
Every hour, more than 1,600 people arrive in an African city. No civilisation in history has urbanised at this speed — and no continent has ever been asked to do it with less: 54 fragmented housing markets, mortgage systems that serve almost no one, and governments that answered the greatest construction demand in human history with demolition orders. The AR treats the urban wave for what it is: the single largest nation-building opportunity ever handed to any government — and builds.
